The Big Bad Wolf
About a year ago I started collecting screenshots of a theme I was noticing in fashion. There were so many Little Red Riding Hood references on the runway and I kept wondering what it all meant, and whether it was a fairy tale or nightmare? I wanted to try the trend out but couldn’t find the right way to pull it off until I got an idea from a free people catalog, did some Etsy searching and found a soft red bonnet.
My friend Mariah joked that I was giving ‘The Handsmaid’s Tale’ which I haven’t watched but know what it’s about, and given the current political climate around women’s reproductive rights … yeah. Things are a bit nightmarish. How the hell do we find our fairy tale in this crazy world? Lately, I’ve been finding a lot of peace watching YouTube videos of people walking through quiet and quaint little English towns. It’s the nicest little escape to let my mind ponder on what it would be like to live in a little village where everyone knows one another, and being able to take in fresh air, look at goats running around and wander around to little local shops.
I’ve also been getting dressed up more than I have since the pandemic, and it makes a normal day feel exciting again. Taking the time to put intention behind how I show up for the day and for the world but for ME just does something for me.
What are you doing to find your fairy tale?
