It Is What It Is.

There’s no changing what it ain’t.

Fall… actually let’s be fancy and call her Autumn. Autumn eased in so nice and smooth. It reminds me of when Gwendolyn Brooks said:

We Strike straight.

We Sing sin.

We Thin gin.

We Jazz June.

Surrender. Peace. Acceptance. Ease.

This season is all about making room for what needs to be. It’s also the season for hibernating, yummy food and red wines. I’ve been in map-mode for the Autumn/Winter season. It’s full of travel, family, friends and goal setting. This Autumn/Winter I’m being vigilant about the way my time is spent, after a year or so of being in an aimless haze.

I have a vision of what I’d like to be doing Autumn 2023.

Here’s what I’ve been doing and loving right now:

  • Working on my apartment decor. I have ordered all the supplies I need for my next project which I’m hoping I can finish within two weeks.

  • Yummy food: my favorite restaurant in DC is CopyCat. They serve Chinese street food and incredible cocktails. However, I did a little digging and found a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant that I can get my chili oil noodles and pork dumplings for half the price. (I still adore CopyCat but a girl has a BUDGET)

  • Watching Designing Miami on Netflix. This is the first interior design show that has managed to keep my attention and resonate with me. So many design shows churn out the same minimalist, farmhouse, rustic look. Designing Miami caters to a clientele that has a little more boldness to them, and Eilyn and Raymond are such a cute couple. I have a deep appreciation for Eilyn’s Virgo work ethic and efficiency, and for Raymond’s design style and perspective. He just GETS it.

  • Reading. I have a bunch of library books on hold, and bunch in my apartment. I’m particularly excited to get my hands on Conversations with Toni Cade Bambara. Here’s a question Toni asked that resonated deeply with where I am now:

Cheers to reality checks.

My poor baby needed a bath this day, but he insists on being involved in EVERYTHING. So here he is.
